November Meeting

That was such a great meeting Who didn't walk out of there with some new colorful stick? Nate and Ryan were great (empireaquatics.net).

Stan walked away with the AMAZINGLY cool Aussie Acan from the raffle.

Rudy's tank was an amazing sight that kept us all envious.

Thanks again to all who attended and suported the cause (especially all that free glue thanks Jerehmy)

How about a "White Elephant" frag swap at the Christmas Party in December?

Everyone bring a coral sealed up in a clear plastic bag and wrap it in a brown paper bag. We'll draw to see who goes first, determine the number of swaps one can make and then BAM! You get what you get and nobody know who brought what (until everybody starts claiming 'I never brought that')

I'll put it on the polls and leave it up to you. Could generate lots o laughs and good cheer.

October Meeting

What a GREAT meeting!  Ushio came and taught us all about wavelengths, lighting, and what the future holds for reef keepers.  I also found it interesting that the life of our Halides can be extended by simply moving them closer to the water's surface every 6 months (extending bulb life to almost 24 months) but we'll have to check that with Stan's PAR meter :D  Also, Ushio donated 2 250W DE bulbs with the winner's choice of color.  Kamil took 1 and I think Gustavo won the 2nd....but that wasn't all

After Craig from Ushio, Rachel from SCCAT then talked to us about the very real dangers of Caulerpa Taxifolia.  Who knew that a 1mm piece of this stuff could live 14 days out of the water, survive the journey down our storm drains, and cost $7.7 million to eradicate.  Also, the stuff grows 1" per day and due to the toxicity, has no predators here off our coast.  The stuff has been slowly taking over the Mediterranean all because of Aquarists carelessness.  For more info go to http://www.sccat.net

We also talked about the Marine Aquarium Expo (MAX) coming in April, the new Coral Farm in Vista (also donated to the raffle), and Mike Parkis' Bali shipment that should be at his house Sunday.

Next month we are still pushing Rudy to get water in his new beast so we can invade Fallbrook.  Also, Ike from Current-USA will be talking to us in November.

Thanks again everybody for coming and supporting our club.  Christmas Party in December :D

July/August/September Meeting!!!

Saturday, 15 September 2007

Those who traveled out of town over the summer missed out on some great meetings.

July saw a packed house at Jerehmy's and I was bummed I missed it but thanks to newly appointed club secretary Chelle, those of us that couldn't attend  at least get to see what we missed:

Jerehmy, owner of XXXX, opened his garage, home (and super friendly cat menagerie), to approximately 20 club members and guests for the July meeting held on July 13th at 7PM. Everyone marveled at Jerehmy's beautiful tanks, professional set-up and wonderful frag super-store in the garage.

Discussions around tank set-up, lighting, fragging, fish and beer lasted until rather late in the evening. Thanks to Jerehmy for the hospitality, and Jerehmy's neighbors for their lax enforcement of the Vista City Sound Ordinance.

And Friday the 13th was anything but unlucky for some of our club members. The club continued to raise money through raffle ticket sales and our big raffle winner was Mr. Lucky himself, Kamil. A complete list of prizes and winners is listed below.

July Raffle Donations and Winners:

Our August meeting returned to Jerehmy's house for a nice relaxing time to just hang out, talk tank, and meet more reefers.  The raffle shelf dried up (see July winners list) but anyone that wanted some Free Fish Food took home what seems to be a popular food for our Aquatic critters thanks to Red Sea :D  Also, with Reef-A-Palooza looming everyone was excited and those that helped work our booth got free NCRMAS T-shirts :D (Thanks again to the raffle).

Now, in September, we got to invade Steve's house in Carlsbad, gaze at his AMAZING 180g mixed reef inside and watch Corralline algae magically disappear off the back wall of his tank in the garage(Go here for more info http://www.therme-at.com/ ).  Then, for those that stayed in the garage, you got to watch the club prez smash his fingers trying to put this AMAZING device back into its container.

Topics discussed at this meeting were the new Marine Aquarium Expo (MAX 2008) coming April 5th and 6th which should become the greatest Aquarists Trade show on the West Coast.  NCRMAS will have a booth and will need volunteers to man (or woman) it :D

We also tried to convince Rudy to get his new 500g SUPER TANK ready so we could invade his house in October....but he wants to take his time (who does this? :D).

Don't forget that Jerehmy of Direct Marine Imports is the person to contact for Special Livestock Orders.

Finally we discussed the BIG SDReefs BBQ (more info at http://www.sdreefs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29296 ).

The raffle was on for this month thanks to Zoo Med, Red Sea, Carib Sea (Jasper loves the Purple UP :D), and Direct Marine Imports

October is just around the corner and we are currently talking to Ushio to get them to come speak and we have already booked the Caulerpa people to discuss the macro algae and others.  See you all in a month :D
